Botox and Fillers For Men
- Posted on: Aug 15 2016
Men as well as women are choosing to take advantage of the excellent benefits of non-surgical, FDA-approved, injectable treatments to address the signs of aging. These popular injectables can be classified as dermal fillers, such as JUVÉDERM™ and neurotoxins, such as Botox®. All fillers work similarly, but each has unique properties for treating specific concerns.
Is there a difference between these two types of injectables? There is. Read on:
Botox® is an FDA approved, non-surgical, injectable procedure for treating wrinkles formed by facial movements in the forehead and between the eyebrows. Botox® uses a neurotoxin (botulinum type A) to temporarily paralyze facial muscles by blocking nerve receptors. Botox® injections prevent muscle movement in the forehead, between the eyebrows, and near the corners of the eyes. These are the areas that cause a tired, stressed, and angry look.
How long is each Botox session?
Each Botox® session takes about 15-20 minutes, and most patients return to normal activities immediately. The effects last three to four months in most patients, at which time repeat injections are needed.
Injectable Dermal Fillers
Injectable dermal fillers are used to fill-out facial features, adjust the contours of the chin and cheek area, help diminish wrinkles, and restore a healthier, robust, more youthful appearance to a man’s face. Injectable fillers contain a synthetic hyaluronic acid gel, a natural substance found throughout the body, that is a precursor of collagen, the support layer of the skin.
Dermal fillers are designed to add volume to the treated areas. Treatments can be completed within 30-minutes and require no downtime. Depending on the product and treatment area, the rejuvenating effects of dermal fillers typically last from four months to a year – then the body naturally metabolizes the filler. To maintain results, periodic repeat injections are advised.
