If you are in good health and, after your consultation with the doctor, you understand the outcome that is possible and you have realistic expectations of that outcome, you’re likely a great candidate for one or more of our treatment options.

Lip Augmentation Options

Lip Augmentation with Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are commonly used to enhance the lips. The treatment is simple, convenient, and comfortable. In this technique, your provider will consult with you about your desired outcome. They will evaluate your lips and discuss the areas that can be treated to achieve your goals. Many dermal fillers used for lip augmentation contain lidocaine so there is no need to sit for thirty or more minutes with numbing cream on your skin. This treatment takes just a few minutes of careful injections into the precise areas to plump and shape your lips.

Lip Augmentation with Botox

Botox injections may be used in conjunction with dermal fillers, depending on your goals. Recently, skilled injectors have turned to Botox to improve the shape of the upper lip. Injecting this neuromodulator into the muscle above the upper lip causes a slight upward “flip” that reveals more of the red, fleshy tissue. This may be a great option for treating a naturally thin or deflated upper lip.

Both dermal fillers and Botox can be used around the mouth to treat concerns like dimples, downturned corners of the mouth, and fine lines. When dermal fillers are injected, you can enjoy immediate results.

Lip Augmentation with Fat Injections

If you want your lip augmentation to last as long as possible, you might consider fat injections an ideal treatment. This procedure will involve some amount of local anesthetic in at least one area. To begin, your provider will obtain fat cells from an area of your body using a conservative liposuction technique. If you are interested in body sculpting, the full liposuction procedure can be performed, and we will harvest some of your fat to use for facial rejuvenation like lip augmentation. The fat cells that are removed from your body are spun in a special machine to separate out pure fat from other fluids. These cells are then injected similarly to dermal fillers. The process takes slightly longer, and your lips may look noticeably full for a few days. Some of the injected fat is expected to absorb, which will result in some degree of deflation. Your provider will inject fat in a way that, regardless of absorption, can achieve beautiful results that last for many years.

How Long Will The Results Of My Lip Augmentation Last?

The results of lip augmentation are generally long-lasting. The shortest amount of time that the effects last is three to four months. This duration is related to Botox, which is sometimes used to enhance the shape of the upper lip or to correct downturned corners of the mouth. If you choose lip augmentation using dermal fillers, your results may last 12 to 18 months. If you undergo fat injections to add more volume to your lips, your results may last indefinitely, though the signs of aging may at some point result in fine lines or wrinkles around your mouth.

Reasons for Lip Augmentation

Do Lips Age?

Many individuals find that as they age, the once full appearance of their lips steadily declines. An abundance of collagen, a protein that cushions and strengthens the body’s soft tissue, is needed to give lips a shapely appearance.

Reasons Why Lips Thin With Age

One of the few causes of thinning lips can be due to the fact that as you age your body naturally begins to produce less collagen. Over time, this can cause your lips to thin out noticeably and develop unwanted wrinkles. Dr. Shah regularly performs lip augmenting procedures at our Las Vegas cosmetic surgery practice, and will work carefully to help your lips retain a youthful, healthy look.

Will The Results Of My Lip Augmentation Look Natural

Lip enhancement is designed to look completely natural. We know this may be hard to believe due to the exaggerated lips you may sometimes see on various celebrities. Those cases are an exception to the rule. When you meet with Dr. Shah or an experienced member of our team for lip enhancement, they will carefully evaluate your lips and discuss the areas that could use more volume, definition, or shape. Your treatment is developed in a way to make your lips stand out in a natural, harmonious way.

Las Vegas Lip Augmentation

Some of the top injectable lip fillers on the market today include Juvéderm, Restylane, Teosyal Kiss, and Volbella. They’ve all been authorized by the FDA. Clinical trials and scientific investigations have been reported. They also have a long-term impact.

Your results will likely last anywhere from three months to nine months, depending on the product you pick and the amount of filler injected.

The more viscous the filler, the longer it will last.

First and foremost, it is critical that you have treatment with a filler that is specifically designed for the lips. To allow the lips to move and feel natural, a lip filler should be soft and flexible. On the other hand, a lip filler must not be too soft since it must be able to maintain the shape of your lips. To get the correct appearance and feel of the lips, the injector must strike a balance between softness and flexibility on the one hand and hardness on the other hand.

When too much filler is used, the outcome is an unnatural or fake appearance. To avoid this, it’s a good idea to check each area in a mirror as it fills up.  Overfilling may be avoided by filling in little increments.

Many injections over time are another common cause of overfilling.

As you lose filler, the treated areas will appear less filled. However, if the same amount of filler is injected, there will almost certainly be some left over, resulting in a more filled or plumper area. If you continue this process, the treated areas may become overfilled.

An allergic response is improbable. Hyaluronic acid fillers are unlikely to produce an allergic reaction since they are created from components comparable to those present in the body. Only a small percentage of people are allergic to filler. They are, however, more typically allergic to the anesthesia in the filler. However, if you are allergic to lidocaine, please notify us before receiving treatment.

The injection locations may show bleeding, swelling, tenderness, redness, and bruising, which are common side effects. Another risk is cold sores or fever blisters (herpes simplex) on lips or the region around the lips.

  • Excessive or vigorous activity should be avoided for at least 24 hours following therapy.
  • After treatment, stay out of the sun for at least 24 hours.
  • Apply a cold pack to your lips.
  • Make sure you drink lots of water.
  • Excessive salt consumption should be avoided for 24 hours to avoid dehydration.

After lip fillers, you should wait until the numbing medication has gone off before eating. It’s also a good idea to avoid foods that are difficult to eat, chew, or even messy during the first 24 hours, so you are less likely to wipe your lips and disturb the injection sites.
