What Is a Mommy Makeover?

Mommy Makeover

A mommy makeover is a compilation of plastic surgery procedures that a surgeon performs simultaneously on various parts of the body that have been affected by pregnancy and breastfeeding. As a highly customizable procedure, mommy makeover involves many choices that involve different areas of the body.

What Procedures Are Involved in a Mommy Makeover?

Due to the breasts gaining in size during pregnancy and especially during breastfeeding, the skin and supportive tissues can stretch. After pregnancy and when you’ve weaned your child, the breasts do shrink, causing the breasts to sag. A breast lift removes excess skin and repositions the breasts to a higher, more youthful position on the chest.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding can also cause the breasts to gain in size, but once you’ve had the baby and weaned them, the breasts can shrink to a smaller size than you had before your pregnancy. Women who want to return volume, particularly in the upper portion of the breasts, or who simply want larger breasts, can opt to have breast implants inserted. You can choose to have a breast augmentation on its own or with a breast lift procedure.

Stubborn pockets of fat can be the most frustrating part when trying to get back to your pre-pregnancy body. They usually accumulate in the lower stomach, thighs, arms, and back. Using a cannula, the fat is suctioned out using either ultra-sound assisted liposuction or power-assisted liposuction to help get your body back into shape.

The amount of stretching the abdomen area goes through during pregnancy is extreme. Once the baby is born and life goes back to normal, the remnants of this stretching can be seen in loose skin and excess fat, especially in the lower abdomen area. A tummy tuck trims excess sagging skin and repositions the separated muscles to give you a flat, strong stomach once again.

Mommy Makeover Recovery

The recovery from a Las Vegas mommy makeover can be quite tough, but also very rewarding. You will have had surgery in at least two locations on your body along with additional areas that required liposuction. The most difficult procedure to recover from is a tummy tuck due to the length of the incision across the bikini line and the repositioning of the stomach muscles. The recovery for a tummy tuck takes about six months. The first week will be most difficult—you’ll need plenty of help and rest.

It’s required that you wear compression garments for about a month to both minimize swelling and help your body adjust to its new abdominal contour. If you had a breast augmentation or lift, you’ll wear a support bra all day every day for at least one month to support your new breasts. It’s takes about six to eight weeks to recovery from a breast procedure.

For the first week, you’re encouraged to keep activity light with minimal walking to avoid blood clots. More strenuous activities will need to wait until your body is fully recovered and it’s been authorized by Dr. Shah for you to do so.
