What Is Renuvion?

Skin Tightening Las Vegas, NV

While there are many skin tightening treatments out there, none uses plasma energy to trigger the “wound-healing” response in the body that leads to skin tightening and new collagen production. That’s what makes Renuvion different. Also known as J Plasma or J Plasty, Renuvion uses helium gas combined with radiofrequency energy to create a precise stream of energy, plasma. This J Plasma is delivered under the skin through a tiny entry incision that doesn’t require sutures to close.

The energy delivered by Renuvion contracts the tissues under the skin, providing impressive skin tightening across the treatment areas. It also triggers new collagen production, thanks to the delivery of heat energy under the skin.

How Does Renuvion Work?

The key to Renuvion is the combination of helium gas and radiofrequency energy. When delivered under the skin, the RF energy causes the helium electrons to become excited. This creates a plasma beam that has unique qualities. When the beam comes into contract with the undersurface of the skin it causes a contraction and tightening that are unmatched by other current technologies such as ultrasound, RF in isolation, or laser energy. The plasma heats the undersurface, but at the same time the helium is much cooler than laser energy, making Renuvion a much safer alternative for skin tightening.

What Areas Can Be Treated With Renuvion J-Plasma?

At Signature Plastic Surgery we’ve found J Plasma to be perfect for loose, wrinkled skin anywhere on the body. It tightens and lifts skin to give you a more youthful look. Plus, it gives you a nice boost in self-confidence seeing your tightened, firmer skin. These are areas we’ve been using this brand-new treatment for our patients from across the Las Vegas area:

Who Is A Good Candidate For Renuvion?

The best candidates for these skin tightening treatments with Renuvion have mild to moderate sagging in the areas they seek to treat. At Signature Plastic Surgery & Dermatology, we’ve had excellent success treating sagging cheeks, jowls, and neck skin, in particular.

To benefit from Renuvion, good candidates still need to have good elasticity in their skin. That’s because the helium/RF plasma energy will trigger a contraction that can only occur if the skin is still somewhat elastic. For those with more severe skin sagging, a surgical removal of the excess sagging skin — such as in a facelift, neck lift, or arm lift with Dr. Shah — would be a better option.

Candidates for Renuvion at our offices in Henderson and Las Vegas want skin tightening and rejuvenation, but they’re not interested in surgical procedures to do so. Dr. Shah is excited about the possibilities of this new technology.

What Happens During A Renuvion Treatment?

Renuvion is a new type of treatment using an energy source not used in other treatments, helium. Helium on its own is inert and non-reactive. But when it is ionized with radiofrequency energy it becomes very reactive, a state known as plasma. To get this energy where it can do some good, Dr. Shah makes a series of small entry incisions in the treatment area. He then moves the Renuvion handpiece, with its thin rod-like end into the incision.

Once he has the Renuvion device in place, it is activated. A stream of plasma energy mixing helium with radiofrequency energy is then released under the skin. This energy generates enough heat to contract the skin while, at the same time, the excess helium gas cools the treatment area. This combination of energy contracts the tissues just under the skin, which creates skin tightening across the surface skin. In addition to immediate tightening, the heat released in the dermis layer of the skin triggers the typical wound healing mechanism you’ve heard about in other procedures. This creates an increase in collagen production that further supports and thickens the skin for months.

What’s The Difference Between Renuvion J Plasma And Other Types Of Skin Tightening Treatments?

Skin Tightening Henderson, NV

If you’re here checking out Dr. Shah’s website, you’re no doubt familiar with other means of creating the wound-healing mechanisms in the skin that lead to increased collagen production and overall skin tightening. That’s the key to non-surgical skin tightening. These treatments use either laser energy or radiofrequency energy to attain their results. The problem with these treatments is that if the energy levels used are too high there can be damage to the tissue causing burns or scarring. While higher energy delivery in these treatments would create more skin tightening; it’s too risky because of the potential for skin damage.

J-Plasma is different because helium plasma only requires a small amount of radiofrequency energy to activate the helium gas. This leads to a release of ionic energy. The combination allows J-Plasma to deliver better skin tightening at lower temperatures with virtually no risk for tissue damage. That’s in contrast to laser treatments that rely solely on heat energy to trigger the skin’s wound-healing response in the dermis.

These advantages are why Dr. Shah added Renuvion to our Med Spa offerings at Signature Plastic Surgery & Dermatology.

Is There Recovery After Renuvion Treatment?

Skin will be red, and patients will have some minor swelling after these treatments. There can also be slight bruising. These issues usually resolve in 5-7 days. For most patients, however, they look fine to go out in just 2-3 days. Any discomfort is easily manageable with over-the-counter pain medication. Downtime is minimal, and these are easy treatments to tolerate.

What Kind Of Results Can I Expect From Renuvion?

Renuvion treatments deliver immediate tightening as a reaction to the plasma energy. This is then followed by more dramatic long-term tightening. When the body senses the combination of cold plasma and RF energy delivered by Renuvion, it responds with the classic wound-healing response, even though there isn’t any actual wound. This immediately creates contraction of the soft tissue across the treatment area. From there, the body continues to build new collagen supplies for the next 6 to 9 months; this is the wound-healing response that improves skin tone and tightness from within.

Is A Renuvion Treatment Painful?

Delivering plasma energy under the skin sounds like a sci-fi movie and patients assume it must be painful. It’s not. For most treatment areas, Dr. Shah uses a combination of local anesthesia and sedation. The anesthesia is meant to cover the tiny incisions he makes and the insertion of the thin Renuvion wand under the skin to deliver the helium plasma and RF energy.
