CoolSculpting Non-Surgical Body Contouring
What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is an exciting advance in body sculpting technology invented by a Harvard scientist. The FDA-approved fat reduction system uses controlled cooling to freeze and remove unwanted fat cells from trouble areas such as the love handles, abdomen and thighs. CoolSculpting is a non-surgical alternative to liposuction that does not require anesthesia, injections, incisions or a lengthy recovery period. Patients love the convenience of CoolSculpting technology, as well as the beautiful results that they can achieve!
CoolSculpting treatment Areas
Signature Plastic Surgery commonly treats the following areas with CoolSculpting.
- Back fat
- Bra line fat
- Underneath the buttocks
- Submental area (double chin)
Ideal candidates for CoolSculpting
Dr. Shah’s team will meet with you for an informational consultation to determine whether you are a suitable CoolSculpting candidate. Additionally, a team member will perform a physical examination of your problem areas and ask you to describe your ideal cosmetic outcome. Generally, good candidates are individuals who:
- Desire improvement, not perfection
- Have reasonable expectations of treatment
- Are in good physical and psychological health
- Are at or close to their ideal weight (This is not a weight loss treatment)
- Have localized areas of unwanted fat that are unresponsive to diet or exercise
During your CoolSculpting session, a member of our team will position the CoolSculpting panels over the treatment area. Light suction draws the skin and underlying fat up between two cooling panels. This will create some pulling and tugging but isn’t painful. The controlled cooling is set to the point where it freezes only the fat cells, leaving the surrounding tissues unharmed. As the cooling of the target area begins you will feel a few minutes of intense cold but this sensation passes relatively soon.
After this initial cold, the area becomes numb for the remainder of the application. Once the fat cells are crystallized they gradually die. Then, the body’s lymphatic system gradually flushes the dead fat cells from the body. This process is repeated several times across the target area until we have covered the entire area. During your session, which typically takes 1 to 3 hours, you can read, watch videos, work on your laptop, or even take a nap.
Because CoolSculpting does not involve anesthesia, incisions or injections, the treatment does not require extensive downtime. In some cases, CoolSculpting treatment may cause temporary redness, minor bruising, tingling or numbness. You can return to your normal routine almost immediately after your treatment.
Before and After CoolSculpting
Results from CoolSculpting
Individual results may vary. You may begin to see results in as little as three weeks, as your body flushes out the frozen fat cells, with the most dramatic results appearing after two months. Note that it could take up to four to six months for your body to completely rid itself of the frozen fat.
CoolSculpting Treatment Sessions
Whether you will need additional treatments is usually dependent on your goals. CoolSculpting kills 20 to 25 percent of the fat in the treatment area. You can opt to go back and treat an area again, but the results aren’t as dramatic the second time. If our team feel it would be beneficial, we will recommend multiple treatments for the best results during your initial consultation.
Weight Gain After CoolSculpting
At Signature Plastic Surgery, we’ve found that CoolSculpting acts as a motivator for our patients, making them work a little harder to stay close to their ideal weight. If you do gain weight after CoolSculpting, it will accumulate evenly across your body, not just in the areas that have been treated with CoolSculpting.
